Zalesina - Educational and Experimental Forest Area

Established in 1950 within the beech-fir selection forests of Gorski Kotar, area 740 ha, 740 m to 1,000 m above the sea level. Parent rock varies from black sandstones (crni brusilovci), schists, quarts sands, red marls, noric dolomites and dark limestones.

Dominant plant associations:

• Forests of beech and fir (Abieti-Fagetum croaticum Horv. 38)
• Forests of fir with Blechnum spicant and Galium rotundifolium L.(Blechno-Abietetum galietosum rotundifoliae Horv. 50)
