Forest Trees and Shrubs of Croatia

BOTANY is a component of the forestry teaching process from the moment of establishing Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry in Zagreb in 1919. At first it had developed within the Botany Department at the Faculty of Arts and later in the Botany Department at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. From 1965 it has been a part of the Department, later Chair and today within the Department of Forestry Genetics and Dendrology at the Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb.

Today the subject is called Forestry Botany and is taught to first year Forestry students d 2+1 hours a week with three days of field class.

At the Faculty of Forestry and Agriculture Botany was taught from 1919 till 1922 by professor Ivo Pevalek (Plant systematic) and professor Dr. Vale Vouk (Overall Botany).
From 1922/23 till 1958/59 professor Ivo Pevalek taught Botany for Agriculture and Forestry students and from 1958/59 only to students of Forestry-Economic Department at the Faculty of Forestry. Academic Pevalek as the first Botany teacher performed the duty to the subject until 1965. From that time till 1999 professor Ivo Trinajstić taught Botany. In 1993 Ass. prof. Josip Franjic was introduced into teaching and became the Botany teacher. In 1999. Željko Škvorc is included in the teaching as an assistant.
