Ph. D. Davorin Kajba

The subject, under the name "FOREST GENETICS" was introduced in1958, and the first lecturer was academic Mirko Vidaković. From 1966 until 1969, during the absence of Prof. Mirko Vidaković, Ph.D., Ante Krstinić, M.Sc. lectured this subject. Prof. Mirko Vidaković, Ph.D., after returning form Pakistan, where he carried out the duty of a FAO expert, again assumed his previous position. Professor Ante Krstinić, Ph.D. was an assistant professor of the subject from 1968 until 1975. From 1975 until his tragic death in1998 Prof. Ante Krstinić taught as a full professor. In1986 Davorin Kajba, Ph.D., took on the position of an assistant of the subject. In 1998, he became a lecturer of the subject. In the same year, Saša Bogdan became a junior research assistant.

From 1960 until 1992, Branka Jurković-Bevilacqua, M. Sc., worked as an expert associate in the Institute.

The subject is taught in 3rd and 4th semester (2+0 and 2+1) with two days of field class for the undergraduate students. The syllabus for undergraduates is composed out of fields of forest genetics and tree breeding: molecular genetics, genetics of qualitative and quantitative characteristics, forest tree breeding methods and achievements in improvement of autochthonous and more important species of conifers and deciduous trees, as well as efficient employment of obtained knowledge into praxis.
